1. PROJECT SUMMARY

RAS-RIDE Matching and Monitoring Project is a diaspora-based project primarily aimed at supporting the relief and rehabilitation effort of internally displaced people in Ethiopia.

The project aims to support displaced families by creating jobs through infrastructure investment and bring greater impact in creating an environment that ensures the basic necessities are fulfilled. It will be managed by the coordination of both US and Ethiopia-based offices and staff members collaborating with local, national, and international organizations to maximize the overall effort of supporting displaced families.

2. ORGANISATIONAL PROFILE

RIDE is an independent media & social networking project organized under the nonprofit institution Ras Media Corp that is registered in the state of Maryland, USA. It primarily aims to advocate for internally displaced people(IDP) resulting from ethnic violence in Ethiopia. To this end, RAS media will roll out a unique international network of diaspora communities as well as communities within Ethiopiato work together towards rehabilitative and Investment diaspora exigency (RIDE- RAS Media project).

Through its satellite news broadcasts and social media, Ras Media provides reliable and relevant information to the Ethiopian public and the global community. These broadcasts plan to increase the public’s awareness by bringing the spotlight on the social and economic challenges of survivors of ethnic violence that occurred due to civil strife of the last few years.

Vision, Mission, and Core Values

Our Mission – is to bring social justice in Ethiopia through informing, educating, inspiring the Ethiopian public and pertinent international stakeholders.

Our Vision – is to be the best provider of information and advocacy support network for internally displaced people in Ethiopia

Core Values – is to promote household-centered emergency assistance, rehabilitation, and investment philanthropic activities to IDPs through media discourse.

Strategies – In addition to regular advocacy media outlets of Ras media, RIDE will implement media matching and monitoring targeting unmet needs of two million IDPs currently affected by ethnic violence in Metekel, Amhara and Oromia regions.

3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

3.1 Background

Ethiopia is located in the horn of Africa with an estimated population of 115 million. According to USAID’s recent data around 20 million people need humanitarian assistance..

The western and southern parts of Ethiopia including the Benishangul-Gumuz Region’s Metekel Zone, Oromia Region’s West Wollega Zone, and SNNP Region’s Konso zone are mainly affected by widespread displacement due to ethnic violence. There is a bigger gap to be filled in addressing the increased humanitarian needs despite an ongoing effort by local, national, and international organizations.

RAS-RIDE Matching and Monitoring Project is intended to support the overall effort with its initiative in linking the needy families who are affected by the displacement with the project provisions including members of the diaspora community who will contribute to the sustainable rehabilitation.

The overall project activities will be coordinated by Ras Media project team. Other partners such as Alliance for Road Travel Services (ARTS), a company with the aim of infrastructure investment such as roadside amenities for travelers, will partner to create job opportunities targeting displaced families.

3.2 Goal and Objectives of the Project

The main goal of the RAS-RIDE Matching and Monitoring Project is to support families affected by internal displacement from areas of ethnic violence.

The specific objectives of the project include:

1. To identify IDPs and conduct unmet need assessment

2. To support the relief effort through the provision of emergency assistance 3. To prioritize, link and match IDPs to RIDE microfinancing provisions

4. To promote infrastructure investment that creates jobs for IDPs

5. HUMAN RESOURCE

The project will be coordinated by the Ras Media Maryland US office and GAC country office at Bahirdar in Ethiopia. The RIDE office will be manned by Project Manager, Cluster Matching Services (CMA) coordinator, Communication officer, and Fundraising officer . The country office in Ethiopia will be run by RIDE representative, CMA coordinator, and local IDP agents at district/kebele levels. The overall project activities will be coordinated by Maryland, USA Ras Media office. (see Annex)

6. PROJECT SITE

The project country office and representative will be located in Bahir Dar, Amhara region. RAS media will be responsible for the overall coordination of the project and is located in Maryland, USA.Needy IDPs in the various districts/clusters of the three regions will be identified as beneficiaries of the project.

7. PROJECT BENEFICIARIES

8. PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY

To ensure the sustainability of the project, local businesses and investors will be involved in the project implementation activities. Local communities will also take part in the relief and rehabilitation effort by providing labor, finance, and security activities. Ras-RIDE project will partner with governmental and non-governmental organizations to maximize the impact and

sustainability of the IDPs benefits. Infrastructure Investments such as ARTS will help affected families to get long term jobs. Income-generating activities to assist displaced families for self-sufficiency will be a regular exercise of Ras-RIDE project.

9. CROSS CUTTING ISSUES

This project besides providing emergency assistance to displaced families, it allows family reunion, job opportunities for IDPs, enables children to go back to school ,facilitates youth skill development and achieve crime prevention.

The total RIDE Project Budget will amount 5 million of which 3 million will be invested on Emergency Assistance & Rehabilitation of IDPs in one year period ( August 2021- July 2022).The rest 2 million will be spent on Infrastructure Development.
